WhatsUp Gold is a truly excellent tool for monitoring your network and troubleshooting network issues. That’s not just our opinion – we regularly win awards for our usability and we’re champions in our industry when it comes to our customer's willingness to renew. But what about when you want to get more data out of network systems than they will provide via SNMP and WMI? What about when you want to extract that additional data and integrate it into WhatsUp Gold? That’s where our new outbound REST APIs come in.
We’ve had inbound REST APIs for some time now and they make it possible to write scripts that push data into WhatsUp Gold so you can automate functions. But WhatsUp Gold 2021 added outbound REST APIs that can get information from other systems and ingest it into WhatsUp Gold on demand. This is not only part of our ongoing improvement process for WhatsUp Gold, but also a part of our continuing effort to integrate with and support other Progress products.
In fact, it was determining how to integrate WhatsUp Gold with Progress Application Server for OpenEdge (PASOE) that lead to the creation of a new document we think you’ll find useful: Using the REST API Monitoring Support in WhatsUp Gold. Our engineering team wanted to use WhatsUp Gold’s Application Performance Monitor (APM)
to reach out to PASOE and query it’s OEManager and HealthCheck APIs for real-time data. Not only were they able to do that easily, but they also documented their process in this very detailed guide that outlines how to:
- Create REST API Performance monitors
- Create REST API Active Monitors
- Create custom application profiles with REST API components
- Visualize the results in a dashboard
Filled with screenshots, step-by-step examples and code snippets, this guide is an excellent place to start if you’re interested in working with WhatsUp Gold’s REST API capabilities. You’ll also find links to additional documentation if you’d like to explore further. So, whether you want to integrate WhatsUp Gold with OpenEdge or any other system this guide will be an extremely useful resource. Why not download it today?
