Performance Monitors determine how efficient the network is operating. Additionally, it looks into what applications are working to gather and show performance metrics. These metrics are then stored in dashboards and reports detailing and quantifying performance.

Tools

Performance Monitoring Tools gather and report on device performance metrics over time. They track availability through lag, delay, ping time, delay and even network jitter. These monitors show how things work based on performance relative to desired performance determined by thresholds.

Software

Performance Monitoring Software helps IT visualize trends, analyze overall performance and calculate averages. This data drives performance reports, showing how often applications are under heavy traffic, usage loads and peak usage times. This data is vital for architecting the network to suit the organization's needs and allocating resources to help critical applications work at their best.

Default monitors include both interface utilization and CPU memory. With WhatsUp Gold Free Edition, multiple Performance Monitors can be assigned to any device. Switches, routers or even a Windows server can have multiple Performance Monitors tracking them. Other default performance items tracked include ping response, latency, CPU, DIS and far more. 

With customization, nearly any kind of custom Performance Monitor can be built. One example of a basic and popular monitor is an APC UPS battery Output Monitor, which tracks the battery output on APC devices.

On the cloud side, WhatsUp Gold integrates with and monitors AWS Cloud Watch and Azure.

WhatsUp Gold can also perform an SQL query, connecting to Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle databases to extract numbers and values. On the Windows side, WhatsUp Gold performs WMI monitoring, or Windows monitoring, to monitor Windows operating systems across the network.

What do you like best about Progress WhatsUp Gold?

What's Up Gold is a fantastic tool, personally I love the automatic discovery of the network that allows me to have a topology almost instantly, on the other hand also the little consumption of resources. Personally, I am a fan of the NTA module and of Log Management and the Config Management module, it really is a very complete management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
